This year, our country has fallen into a sad record, particularly
this summer during which abandonments increased by 28%.
The shelters are currently saturated, not only with dogs but
also cats, rabbits and other small rodents such as Guinea pigs.
I had already adopted my first dog in the
« Gennevilliers SPA » 16 years ago. When our dog went to heaven, we
were not ready to adopt straight away a new animal.
We went to the Villevaudé shelter at the end of August with
our kids this time. It was very important for me to make my daughters
understand the importance of taking care of the living and therefore the
animals.
We met hundreds of little eyes that only asked for love and and
we came back home with a new family member!
We brought « Plume » home, we set her up her
basket so that she has her own corner.
She was able to enjoy a whole week with my children and my
husband on vacation in order to get used to us. It also allowed us to understand her a little better and to
identify her fears.
The start of the new school year has arrived and Plume has
had to get used to our absences. After a difficult week with nonsense and
crying, we’ve invested in a toy that distributes treats, and a diffuser
socket for stress relief.
One month after her adoption, Plume has completely adapted
to her new life. There may be occasional mischief, but with all our love, the
rules we teach her with great patience everything comes into order step by
step.
So please, think about adoption instead of buying a pet.
Shelters need help and if you can’t adopt animals you can
also sponsor one of them. A great way to get involved with your family and
raise awareness among children.
Julie,
the pet lover.
